We breed Paso Finos, not as show horses but as trail mounts. I have been trail riding and promoting this breed for 15 years and I am always amazed at how well suited they are for trail and endurance work.

I do quite a bit of riding at the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Recreation Area East of Edmonton and I was wondering if there were any other people riding gaited horses on the trails out there?

Lovely horse!

I'm new to Alberta, and I don't know much about the trial riding scene... but I did know a lady back in BC who did competitive trail riding with Peruvian Pasos. I rode one of hers once and WOW.

I'm not quite ready to give up trotting and cantering, but that one ride made me decide that when I'm older I will be getting a gaited horse. Something 14.2 and smooth so it will be easy to just mount up and ride all day.

I rode Arabs until I got my knees started to get bad. The pain after riding was so intense that I almost gave up on horses. Then I discovered gaited horses and I have never looked back! Now I can not understand why anyone would want to trot! LOL

all my horses are grades, and none of them started yet. But the Cooking lake area is right by me and I hope to be hitting the trails there next summer. Hopefully our paths will cross

I have always wanted to try a gaited horse. I have only owned Arabs so it would be quite a change for me!
